Welcome!

Hi there! my name is Noodlebugs!

Currently I am working on a Ukagaka, specifically a Beetlejuice one!

3/20/2025: The Many Many Emotions of Beetlejuice

Hiya, happy march!

Quick art update! So over the spring break that I had, I used the time to work on the sprite work for the beetlejuice ukagaka. Beetlejuice has a wide range of emotions from just his hair. There's a lot of poses I want him to show, but I also dont want to draw more sprites than I need, and I do not a lot of time to spare drawing him.

Luckly, I found out that you can layer onto sprites. Its used for mostly blinking sprites, but i think theres a way to layer multiple. so instead i seperated the sprite to pose, hair streak, eyes, and mouth. I drew each on a seperate layer, using one of my sketches of my pose as a reference.

For example. These were some of the rough poses that I came up with. I made, like, 25+ different poses for different emotions.

This is what my art program looked like from making all the layer. Currently the "drawing" has over 50 layers.

Here we have a body, hair streak, eyes, and mouth pose. That way all the layers would merge into a sprite that looks like this.

Look at the charmer. The plan is to do that will all the sprites. That way, Beetlejuice can express a wide range of emotions and it saves me time. Granted, some sprites will be one layer, but only because sometimes a pose wont fit for any other emotion.

For now, take this sprite of Beetlejuice on the couch, watching you work.

The next step is to start importing drawings, just to make sure it works. Hopefully this will be the last art update for a while. See you in April!

2/11/2025: A Fearsome Introduction

Heya! Hope you like the new look of everything! Currently I'm trying to update to try and post once a month, Here's the update.

I liked the animated intros for Ukagaka's such as the one for Future Leonardo, I think they're cute. The questions was, what to animate? Beetlejuices canon introductions were very grand, loud and dramatic, but because of how small the file is, I needed something somewhat as theatrical.

I took some imspiration from Cartoon Beetlejuice, and how he'd just conjur things into reality, so I wanted it to look like he'd unzipped himself from the netherworld.

I started out with a simple sketch of what I wanted. I like the netherworld in the movie being greenish brown full of smoke, so I tried my best to make it look like he was exiting from hell.

Next I made a more refined animatic. I made his poses bouncier, I drew some poses for fire, and I made it look like a actual zipper. The only problem was that it was too slow, so I changed the timing by adding a few inbetween frames and changed it from 10fps to 12fps as shown below.

Now time to actually finalize it. I realized when I put my references in, I would have to draw Beetlejuice relatively smaller, to match with the height of the sprites I've made so far. to make sure the poses would remain the same, I went back and made another layer for a more reference correct look. the hard part now will be finishing the coloring and lineart.

Currently this is the most updated version so far. as for the the actual colorscheme i chose, i setteled for a mostly greyish light green tone, it made him look more moldy.

Here is a more updated sprite with the color scheme I chose, now time to draw the rest of the sprites :'].

That was fun! See ya!

1/19/2025: Beetlejuice and His Different Forms

Hoorah, First update! So, when I was designing how Beetlejuice looks I wanted 2 things.

    1. For him to have color changing hair and

    2. For him to be ugly yet charming. Otherwise I would hate staring at him.

The color changing hair part was pretty easy. I used this as a reference, so any complex emotions is usally a base color with small streaks of another. The hard part is designing Beetlejuice. I wanted Beetlejuice to be "charmingly ugly", empasis on ugly. So designing him to look good in a style I like was hard.

These were the first designs. I took mostly inspo from the beetlejuice cartoon, I liked his look and proportions. but he looked too ugly. I did like the colors though, so I didnt want to change his pallette too much. I also wanted to keep his beard, so I played around with how it should look.

I liked how the body looked in the previous design so I played around with the face. In addition I also played around with body types, trying to make it look more like the musical Beetlejuice. I really liked the limb structure in sketch #4, so I tried making the designs more like that. However, these were all too ugly, so I started from scratch.

These sketches are based on the movie Beetlejuice more. He looked to creepy in the 2nd one, but I did like the slight lanky look.

I really liked these ones. especially the 2nd one. I felt like I struck gold on the body so I kept it the same. The only thing I didn't like was the head. It would be hard to replicate in that style for poses, so it needed to be simpler. I loved the eyes and mouth in the 3rd sketch, so I stuck to that one. Put those together, and you get

...these sketches. I liked this style a lot. Not only was it fun to draw, it was easier to replicate the style. The 2nd one is a test pallete.

So Tada! Here is a unpolished sprite. It still needs better color work and lineart, but I'm happy with what I have.

That was a fun update! See ya soon!
